Ground cardamom is a valuable and popular spice that flavours both food and drinks. Traditionally, ground cardamom is used to flavour coffee in many countries, and is added to sweets, biscuits and gingerbread (especially during the winter holidays). It flavours sweet yeast pastries and other doughs, and is used in spicy stews and seitan steaks. Cardamom has a refreshing effect, which is why in ancient times, in some countries, cardamom was, and still is, chewed after meals to improve breath.
