MINERALS AND VITAMINS. Pearl barley groats are rich in carbohydrates and minerals – magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and calcium. Scientists have studied their properties and found that they contain almost all the biologically active nutrients the human body needs.
MULTIPLE BENEFITS. The water in which pearl barley groats are soaked is rich in gordecin, a natural antibiotic that treats fungal skin diseases. It also improves expectoration, tones, stimulates milk production in breastfeeding women and has a positive effect on the liver.
SOURCE OF FIBRE. Barley has a high fibre content. Fibre supports the proper functioning of the digestive system and helps regulate bowel function. The human gut does not digest fibre, so as it travels through the gut it picks up leftover food and other unnecessary substances and removes them from the body. This cereal can be called the body’s broom!
A FILLING AND NUTRITIOUS PRODUCT. Thanks to its high fibre and carbohydrate content, dishes prepared with pearl barley will keep you feeling fuller for longer. For this reason, it is highly recommended for people who are prone to obesity or who are trying to regulate their body weight.
UNIVERSAL CROUP. Pearl barley has a mild, natural flavour that makes it very versatile. You can use them to make a variety of porridges, to season and enrich salads, soups and stews. You can also use pearl barley to make a wonderful side dish or to bake a barley barley steak.
Preparation method: The groats should be soaked for 1 to 3 hours before cooking. Bring the groats to the boil with double the amount of water and cook for about 20 minutes.
